Saskatchewan followed a 28-26 road victory over Edmonton with a 42-20 demolition of Ottawa last week. Backup quarterback Tommy Stevens has rushed for three touchdowns in each of those victories, giving the Riders an additional short-yardage weapon around Trevor Harris and the traditional offense. Saskatchewan is now 6-2 and has regained momentum after a brief midseason stumble.
Hamilton fell to 3-6 after losing 27-24 at BC, but the performance was encouraging. Harrison Frost made his first start and kept the Tiger-Cats within striking distance until the final seconds, when a potential game-tying field goal missed. Hamilton had also shown some resistance during its previous loss to Calgary, making it clear that the current version is more competitive than the team Saskatchewan encountered earlier in the summer.
That first meeting remains impossible to ignore. Saskatchewan crushed Hamilton 38-7 on July 12, controlling the game from start to finish and scoring 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. The Tiger-Cats have changed at quarterback since then and now get the rematch at home, but a 31-point defeat establishes how large the talent gap can become when Saskatchewan controls the line of scrimmage and avoids turnovers.

Hamilton should produce more than seven points this time, and Frost’s performance in Vancouver provides some reason to expect a competitive first half. Saskatchewan still owns the more complete roster, stronger defense and far more reliable quarterback situation. With the Roughriders pursuing a third consecutive victory after beating Edmonton and Ottawa, laying 6.5 is preferable to paying -278 on the moneyline.
