Montreal and Winnipeg kick off at 8:30 PM ET at Princess Auto Stadium, with the Alouettes favored by 7 points and the total set at 60.5. Montreal enters at a league-best 9-1 with seven consecutive victories, while Winnipeg has fallen back to 5-5 after losing 22-19 to Edmonton last week.
The gap between these teams has become particularly obvious offensively. Davis Alexander leads the CFL with 3,400 passing yards and has thrown 20 touchdowns against only two interceptions. Tyson Philpot leads the league with 1,229 receiving yards, Tyler Snead is approaching 1,000 and Travis Theis has given Montreal enough balance on the ground to prevent defenses from simply selling out against the pass.

Montreal has yet to score fewer than 30 points in any game this season and is averaging 42.7 over its last three. That creates an uncomfortable matchup for a Winnipeg team that has repeatedly struggled to finish drives and will likely need its offense to play from ahead rather than spend the entire night chasing Alexander.
The Bombers had exactly that opportunity against Edmonton. Winnipeg built a 16-0 halftime advantage, allowed the Elks to erase it and eventually lost on a walk-off field goal. That dropped the Bombers to .500 and continued a much larger slide in which they have gone 12-14 over their last 26 games dating back to their 3-0 start last season.
Zach Collaros and Brady Oliveira still make Winnipeg dangerous at home. Oliveira is expected to play despite missing practice time with an ankle issue, and the Bombers own the CFL's best pass defense at 268.8 yards allowed per game. That gives Winnipeg a path to slowing the game down, but very few defenses have been able to consistently get Montreal into uncomfortable down-and-distance situations.
There is also substantially more at stake for Montreal than simply maintaining first place. An Alouettes victory combined with a Hamilton loss would secure both a playoff berth and a home playoff game before September even begins. That should eliminate any concern about the league's best team taking a .500 opponent lightly.

Winnipeg remains capable of making this interesting for stretches, especially at home, but Montreal has been too dominant to fade at only a touchdown. The Alouettes have the league's best quarterback-receiver combination, a seven-game winning streak and an offense that has forced opponents into shootouts all year. Winnipeg has not shown enough consistency for 60 minutes to trust it to remain within one score.
