Cincinnati opened the tournament with an impressive 3-1 comeback victory over Pachuca. After conceding first, Evander equalized before Pavel Bucha and Kenji Mboma Dem completed the turnaround. Evander has been driving the recent surge, producing three goals and five assists across Cincinnati's past four matches while carrying 11 goals and 11 assists in MLS play this season. Kévin Denkey provides another central scoring threat, while Miles Robinson anchors a lineup with quality at every level.
Pumas entered Leagues Cup with momentum after destroying FC Juárez 5-1, its second consecutive Liga MX victory. That form disappeared in the opener against Charlotte, however, as Pumas suffered a 3-0 defeat and dropped to the bottom of the Liga MX Leagues Cup table.
