The Champions League and Europa League winners meet Wednesday with PSG entering as the clear favorite. The Parisians are -145 on the moneyline, Aston Villa is +350 and the draw is +280, with the match streaming on Paramount+ in the United States.
PSG returns to the Super Cup after producing one of the competition’s most dramatic comebacks last year. Tottenham led 2-0 until Lee Kang-in scored in the 85th minute and Gonçalo Ramos equalized in stoppage time, allowing PSG to eventually win 4-3 on penalties. Luis Enrique’s team was noticeably rusty that night and needed almost the entire match to find its normal level.

The Parisians enter this edition with another abbreviated buildup. PSG lost 3-0 to Mallorca in its first preseason match before drawing Manchester United 1-1 on Saturday, when several players returning from the World Cup only appeared from the bench. The difference now is that Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha, João Neves and the rest of PSG’s major core are all included in the Super Cup squad.
Aston Villa earned its place by beating Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final, completing an impressive European run under Unai Emery. Villa has also had the more extensive preseason, beating Indonesia All Stars and BG Pathum United by identical 3-1 scores before losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich.
The problem is the personnel Villa takes into Salzburg. Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins are unavailable, removing the starting goalkeeper, an important central defender and the club’s leading striker from a matchup that already requires Villa to outperform the reigning European champions. That makes the step up from preseason opposition considerably more difficult.
Villa has also seen firsthand how difficult PSG can be to contain. The clubs met in the 2025 Champions League quarterfinals, when PSG advanced 5-4 on aggregate despite Villa winning the second leg 3-2. That tie showed Villa can trouble Luis Enrique’s side, but PSG still had enough attacking quality to create an ultimately decisive advantage.

PSG may again need time to reach full speed after a disrupted preseason, but -135 is a manageable price on the stronger and deeper side. Villa’s Europa League title commands respect, yet the absences of Martínez, Konsa and Watkins significantly weaken an underdog already facing a PSG team that has won the Champions League in consecutive seasons. The defending Super Cup champions should be better prepared to avoid last year’s early stumble and finish the job inside 90 minutes.
