That victory came after Seattle was beaten 3-0 by Toluca in its tournament opener. The Sounders now need another regulation victory and significant help elsewhere, with goal differential potentially forcing Brian Schmetzer’s side to chase the match aggressively.
Guadalajara has yet to win in regulation during Phase One, but the results have been competitive. Chivas drew LAFC 1-1 before losing the penalty shootout, then suffered a 1-0 defeat against FC Dallas despite generating 17 shots and five attempts on target.
Chivas therefore has more attacking potential than the single tournament goal suggests. Roberto Alvarado has scored its only Leagues Cup goal, while Armando González remains a major threat after scoring 24 Liga MX goals across the previous Apertura and Clausura campaigns.
Seattle’s desperation could actually create the more attractive setup for Guadalajara. The Sounders cannot simply protect a narrow result and hope to advance, which should force numbers forward and leave space for Chivas to counter. Guadalajara is already eliminated and can play without the same tournament pressure.
