4 Minute ReadDenis Shapovalov vs. Adrian Mannarino Prediction: Will Each Veteran Win a Set on Thursday Afternoon in Cincinnati?
Shapovalov enters the first-round outdoor hard-court matchup as a -139 favorite, with Mannarino available at +114. The Canadian owns a 2-1 career head-to-head advantage, but both players arrive in Cincinnati with enough recent volatility to make the short moneyline difficult to trust.
Shapovalov is still only 27, but he remains well below the level that once carried him into the Top 10. There have been encouraging signs lately, particularly in Los Cabos, where he beat Cameron Norrie 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to reach the final before Arthur Gea stopped him 6-3, 6-4.

Denis Shapovalov vs. Adrian Mannarino Prediction
His Montreal appearance immediately created another concern. Shapovalov won the opening set against Zachary Svajda before an ankle problem worsened and forced him to retire while trailing 4-6, 6-4, 3-0. He has had time to recover, but the injury creates additional uncertainty around expecting him to cruise through two clean sets.
Mannarino is now 38, but the Frenchman continues to produce dangerous performances against younger opponents. He recently knocked off Learner Tien 7-5, 6-4 in Washington before losing a competitive 6-4, 7-6(3) match to Alex Michelsen, showing he can still absorb pace and extend sets on North American hard courts.
Shapovalov has historically had the better of this matchup, including a 6-2, 6-1 victory in their most recent meeting in 2024. Mannarino still owns one victory in the series, however, and his flat left-handed patterns can be awkward for a Shapovalov game that remains prone to stretches of errors.
Neither side looks especially trustworthy to dominate for two consecutive sets right now. Shapovalov has the greater power and should create more winners, but his recent ankle issue and inconsistency leave Mannarino a clear route to a set. Mannarino, meanwhile, remains capable of disrupting rhythm but is difficult to trust physically and offensively over an entire match.

That makes the three-set market more attractive than choosing a winner. Each player has enough to expose the other without presenting a convincing case for a straightforward 2-0 result, and +110 provides plus-money value on a match with plenty of potential momentum swings.
