Better was expected of Desperate Dan at Haydock, but he was ultimately caught too far back and failed to land a blow. He did win this from his current mark 12 months ago and first-time blinkers could sharpen him up, although preference is for ANYASI. Roger Varian's dual novice winner hit the woodwork last time and a mile looks sure to unlock further improvement from the low-mileage three-year-old. Southwell victor Shipbourne is progressive and warrants close inspection, while it would be unwise to rule out last year's Lincoln winner Godwinson because he's dropped to an appealing mark.
