DETROIT MAVERICK went well on his hurdling debut at Gowran Park at the beginning of the month. He made the running that day and only gave best at the second-last hurdle, a fair effort on his first outing since finishing fifth in a bumper on very different ground here in April. The more experienced World As One has a rating of 112 after just losing out at Tramore in April and he was a strong favourite to win on his return to action at Downpatrick a month ago, only to be brought down at the first hurdle. City Of Cork was beaten quite a way on each of his three bumper starts last winter. Racing too keenly did nothing for his chances when last seen at Thurles in March.
