York 15:00 Racecard and Betting Preview

Sporting Life Preview

Venice Beach could prove best of Aidan O'Brien's trio after a fine run in the Grand Prix de Paris where he was staying on strongly at the finish. He'd earlier beaten Wings Of Eagles in the Chester Vase before a moderate run behind the runner-up at Epsom. Khalidi has moved from John Gosden to Clive Cox after his second in the Gordon Stakes, which doesn't look quite good enough, but his former stable companion CRACKSMAN will take the world of beating. A narrow winner from the high-class but ill-fated Permian at Epsom was followed by a superb run in the Derby where he was always in the firing-line before eventually beaten just a length. He was again just outpaced in the closing stages by Capri in the Irish Derby and this looks his day to gain that first Group 1 victory. Mirage Dancer is a slow-burner who has only had three starts but his stable have an outstanding record in the race and know exactly what's required so he's greatly respected.

Oddschecker Verdict

All eyes will be on CRACKSMAN who is reported to have lit up the Newmarket gallops ahead of what will be his final start of the season. The son of Frankel has enjoyed a fine campaign already, placing in both the English and Irish Derbies, but connections are adamant that next year will be his year and he is expected to miss the St Leger after winning here. Despite the late defection of Capri, Aidan O'Brien once again brings a strong raiding party across the Irish Sea with Grand Prix De Paris third Venice Beach the pick of Ryan Moore, while Sir Michael Stoute has been bringing along Mirage Dancer steadily and he ran a fine race when placing in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot. Stout stayer Count Octave ruffled up Stradivarius at the Royal meeting and it will be interesting to see how that form holds up.

Prediction: 1st Cracksman, 2nd Venice Beach, 3rd Mirage Dancer
