The JCB Triumph Hurdle kicks off the final day of the Cheltenham Festival, and the 2026 renewal looks set to be a fascinating contest for the top four-year-old hurdlers. Run over roughly two miles and one furlong, the Grade 1 event often throws up future stars and regularly produces one of the most competitive betting heats of the meeting.

Recent trends highlight the strength of Irish runners in the race, with Irish-trained horses dominating the Triumph Hurdle in recent years. Trainers like Willie Mullins have enjoyed particular success, making any of their runners in this division worthy of close attention from bettors.

Among the headline contenders this year is Proactif, who has attracted strong support in the market after a series of impressive juvenile performances. Many tipsters see him as the horse to beat if he handles the unique demands of Cheltenham’s undulating track.

Another major player is Selma De Vary, who has been widely tipped by experts following encouraging runs earlier in the season. She has already shown the ability to compete at a high level and could benefit from the allowance given to fillies in races like this.

Expert Betting Tips for the JCB Triumph Hurdle

Jake Price - Proactif

Despite initially being concerned that PROACTIF may end up running in the Triumph with an insufficient amount of experience under his belt owing to the fact that his Fairyhouse win was too close to the DRF to run in a Grade 1 subsequently, I have very much come round to him following the withdrawal of Narciso Has in the build up to The Festival.

Back in France this lad was a good six length winner of the Prix Finot at Auteuil over 2m2f when having the reopposing Apolon De Charnie behind, but his aforementioned debut for Willie Mullins at Fairyhouse in January was a particularly smart performance considering he was hassled for the lead almost the whole way by Combs.

Rishi Persad's Selection: SELMA DE VARY

Very talented filly who produced a smart performance to win her final start in France back in November. She made a hugely encouraging start to life with Willie Mullins when second to Narciso Has at the Dublin Racing Festival and with the latter sidelined, she looks to have a great chance in this race.
