5 min2024 March Madness Player Rankings: Ranking The Top 10 Players In The NCAA Tournament
There's (mostly) a common theme with my top ten players of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Most of the student-athletes listed below are upperclassmen with many years of experience, which is typically ideal for teams trying to win the NCAA Tournament.
So, let's get right to it. Here are my top ten players to watch in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Top 10 Players In The NCAA Tournament
10. Jaedon LeDee - (San Diego State, F, Senior)
Jaedon LeDee has played for three different universities in five seasons. But he hasn't had nearly the success with Ohio State and TCU as he has at San Diego State.
In his second year at San Diego State, LeDee averaged 21.1 points per game, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. He also shot 55.7% from the field and started in all 33 games for the Aztecs.
This was after LeDee helped San Diego State get into the Final Four of last year's NCAA Tournament. LeDee wasn't a scoring leader for SDSU the previous year, but he developed into one of the best players in college basketball in his fifth and final season.
9. Kyle Filipowski - (Duke, F, Sophomore)
Kyle Filipowski announced he'd return for another season at Duke after scoring 15.1 points per game last year.
In his sophomore year, he scored 17.1 points per game and increased his shooting percentage from 44.1% to 51.1% while scoring more points.
Filipowski also added 8.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists to help lead Duke to a four-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
8. Johni Broome - (Auburn, F, Junior)
Johni Broome played his first two seasons with Morehead State and scored 16.8 points in his second season. He was so good that almost every high-major team was in on him when he entered the transfer portal in 2022.
He chose Auburn, and now it looks like an incredible decision. Broome led Auburn to an SEC Championship and contributed 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game this season.
7. Rob Dillingham - (Kentucky, G, Freshman)
Rob Dillingham is the only freshman on this list. He added 15.4 points per game while playing only 23.1 minutes per game, which is extremely difficult to do.
He also shot nearly 45% from downtown on 4.5 threes per game.
Dillingham has a bright future at Kentucky.
6. Graham Ike - (Gonzaga, C, Junior)
Although Gonzaga didn't have the season many expected this year, the Bulldogs still landed one of the biggest transfers from last year.
Graham Ike finished two seasons at Wyoming and then transferred to Gonzaga, where he added 16.5 points per game. Ike also earned 7.2 rebounds and shot a ridiculous 60.5% from the field for the Bulldogs.
5. Jamal Shead - (Houston, G, Senior)
Jamal Shead is one of the few players on this list who has played with his team for four consecutive seasons.
Shead had his best season with Houston this season, in his senior year. He played in 34 games and scored 13.1 points per game while adding 6.2 assists per night.
Maybe his offense wasn't the best. But his defense, along with the entire Houston team, is sensational.
4. Dalton Knecht - (Tennessee, F, Senior)
Dalton Knecht transferred from Northern Colorado and committed to Tennessee for his senior season. At Northern Colorado, he scored 20.2 points in 2022-2023.
Then he came to Tennessee and played against much more difficult competition. Yet, he still scored 20+ points. This year, he added 21.1 points and took the same number of shots as the previous year.
Knecht was one of the best scorers in the NCAA this year.
3. RJ Davis - (North Carolina, G, Senior)
RJ Davis has improved every single season. He went from 8.4 points in his freshman season to 21.4 points this year.
Davis has only shot 43.1% from the field, but he's still given North Carolina about 35 minutes a night, with 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
2. Tristen Newton - (UConn, G, Senior)
Tristen Newton doesn't get enough love.
This season, he added 15.2 points, seven rebounds, and six assists per game. In the Big East Tournament, he added 19 assists in the last two games and scored 38 points in those two games combined.
He's everything for the Huskies. His A-Game will be needed for another tournament run.
1. Zach Edey - (Purdue, C, Senior)
Zach Edey led the league in scoring with 24.4 points per game. He also earned 11.7 rebounds per game and shot 61.9% from the field.
In addition, Edey averaged 2.2 blocks per game and helped Purdue to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament this year.
Edey announced he won't be returning next season. This is it for him. He's going to bring it for Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. They can't afford another major upset like last year.
