2025 March Madness Rankings
1. Duke Blue Devils
At this point, it’s clear Duke is the Thanos of this year’s tournament - the Blue Devils are simply inevitable. They continued their dominance this weekend with an 89-66 victory over Baylor. Tyrese Proctor had an excellent game, going 9-10 from the field for 25 points and Cooper Flagg was solid as always. A healthy Duke is the strongest team in the field.
2. Florida Gators
Florida squeezed out the win over UConn 77-75. While the win wasn’t quite a statement game, defeating last year’s champion is still impressive and the Gators head into a matchup with Maryland feeling very confident.
3. Houston Cougars
A five-point win over Gonzaga doesn’t scream a dominant performance. However, the Cougars were in control the entire game, and Gonzaga was considered one of the stronger mid-range seeds. Holding off the late surge by the Bulldogs was very encouraging.
4. Auburn Tigers
It was touch and go in the first half, but the Tigers began to pull away halfway through the second half for a solid win over Creighton. While they aren’t reclaiming the top spot anytime soon, they’ve handled question marks well and look solid.
5. Tennessee Volunteers
No question marks or concerns here. The Vols handled UCLA well with the 67-58 victory and looked like the strongest 2-seed in the field.
6. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama secured their third straight year in the Sweet 16 with a win over St. Mary’s. The game was never really in question, and after a closer-than-ideal game against Robert Morris was a bit concerning, this was a strong bounce-back.
7. Michigan State Spartans
The Lobos made things interesting but ultimately, the Spartans closed the game out strong - as any Tom Izzo team should.
8. Kentucky Wildcats
The SEC continues to show their strength and Kentucky’s win over Illinois was as solid as you can get, remaining in control throughout the game.
9. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Drake hung around throughout the first half, but Texas Tech pulled away in a strong 77-64 victory.
10. Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats looked bound for an exit early in the first half but came through with a solid win in a very even matchup against Oregon.
11. BYU Cougars
Arkansas had the biggest upset of the weekend, but don’t overlook BYU’s 91-89 win over Wisconsin. The score is a bit misleading and BYU controlled the majority of the game.
12. Michigan Wolverines
The opening-round win of just 68-65 over UC San Diego was a little concerning and Texas A&M actually controlled a solid portion of this game. A win is a win, but we’re still looking for a complete game from Michigan.
13. Ole Miss Rebels
Yet another SEC win. Ole Miss beat an impressive Iowa State state team 91-78. Iowa State tried to make it interesting, but make no mistake - this was a beatdown.
14. Maryland Terrapins
The Terrapins pulled off a controversial one-point win over Colorado State. The Rams had a double-digit lead early on and controlled the majority of the game fairly. Maryland pulling this out is a testament to their fight, but this was the most concerning win on the weekend, pushing them back in the rankings.
15. Purdue Boilermakers
The Boilermakers had a solid win over McNeese. However, they’ve had perhaps the easiest road and we’ll need to see how they play against Houston.
16. Arkansas Razorbacks
St. John’s made a push, but the Razorbacks weathered the storm. It’s tough to deny the magic of John Calipari in March Madness and the SEC as a whole has proven they deserved respect.
