When analyzing the bout pre-UFC 269, maybe the upset over Nunes wasn't as surprising as previously thought. Seemingly destined for greatness after winning The Ultimate Fighter 18 at just 23 years old, Julianna Pena started her UFC career out red-hot, winning four straight contests, including wins over Jessica Eye and Cat Zingano.

After the winning streak, Pena ran into the buzzsaw, also known as Valentina Shevchenko. Following her shortcoming against "Bullet," Pena would win her next outing against fellow The Ultimate Fighter winner, Nicco Montano, but she'd suffer another setback when being submitted by former UFC Women's Featherweight Champion Germaine de Randamie, but Pena would get back on track by submitting Sara McMann before her victory over Nunes.

Pena boasts an impressive 7-2 record under the UFC banner, and her only pair of losses come against former and current champions while she holds wins over a one-time title challenger in the form of Zingano as well as the inaugural UFC Women's Flyweight Champion, the aforementioned Montano in addition to Nunes.

If Pena wants to rewrite history at UFC 277, she may be keen to go right back to the well that got her the title at UFC 269, and that's with a mixed attack. While Nunes holds most of the statistical advantages over Pena, the "Venezuelan Vixen" still boasts an impressive 2.43 takedowns per 15-minutes.

Hoping to right her lone wrong since 2014 at UFC 277 will be "The Lioness." Following a TKO loss to the previously mentioned Zingano back in 2014, Nunes went on an unheard-of run, winning 12 straight bouts, including nine title fight wins, and becoming the first-ever women's two-weight champion.

Nunes defeated the likes of Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann, Valentina Shevchenko, Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko (twice), Raquel Pennington, Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, Germain de Randamie, Felicia Spencer, and most recently, Megan Anderson before her defeat against Pena.

Regardless of the outcome at UFC 277, Nunes has an untouchable historic resumé with seven (7) wins over six (6) different opponents who have won a title in the UFC with wins over the aforementioned Shevchenko (twice), Rousey, Cyborg, Holm, de Randamie (twice), and Tate.

If Nunes wants to get her title back, she may not want to overthink the loss against Pena and get back to her game as she holds nearly every statistical advantage over the "Venezuelan Vixen", most notably boasting a 4.55 to 3.36 significant strikes landed per minute advantage.

Julianna Pena vs. Amanda Nunes Odds

Pena made history at UFC 269 as she overcame +500 odds against Nunes, who went into the first bout as an astronomical -800 favorite.

However, for the rematch, the odds are much closer, but the oddsmakers continue to back Nunes, who currently sits as a -275 favorite over the champion at BetMGM. Meanwhile, Pena is priced as a +240 underdog for the rematch at Caesars.

When it comes to previously seemingly unbeatable "Lioness," outside of matchups against Raquel Pennington (-530), Megan Anderson (-1000), and the first Pena fight (-800), Nunes was either a modest -250 or lower favorite or an underdog for the balance of her UFC career as the Brazilian legend was a sizable underdog against the likes of Cris Cyborg (+200), Ronda Rousey (+220) and Miesha Tate (+220) during her lengthy title run.
