5 Minute ReadUNC Football Season Odds: Will Bill Belichick Survive the Season as Tar Heels Take on Cal Bears on Friday Night?
The North Carolina Tar Heels are one of the biggest dumpster fires in college football, and if you look at the upcoming schedule, it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. The much-anticipated return to coaching for Bill Belichick has been a shocking crash back to earth, with the greatest NFL head coach looking like one of the worst college coaches.
There are distractions galore, with Patriots drama, girlfriend drama, and players' parents drama. No one thinks the Tar Heels are going to turn it around, and it seems like the little talent they have in the locker room is giving up on the season after back-to-back blowout losses.
UNC will travel to Berkeley to meet the Cal Bears on Friday night, and they are +8.5 underdogs. Can Bill Belichick turn it around, or will he even make it through the season as the coaching carousel heats up? Let's take a look at the full UNC season odds, including win total, Belichick firing odds, and tonight's game vs. Cal.

UNC Tar Heels Football Season Odds
UNC Regular Season Wins
Wins Total | Odds |
|---|---|
Over 3.5 Wins | -150 |
Under 3.5 Wins | +110 |
UNC is 2-3 so far, and it's not likely to get any better for the Tar Heels. Sportsbooks are predicting them to get maybe two more wins on the season, and they'll probably be underdogs in nearly every game with how they've played so far. You would expect more out of a Bill Belichick team, but he's never been a college head coach and has weak talent compared to the rest of the conference. They'll have to surprise a few teams to pick up these wins.
UNC First ACC Win of Season Odds
Opponent | Odds |
|---|---|
at California | +225 |
vs. Virginia | +275 |
at Syracuse | +350 |
vs. Stanford | +275 |
at Wake Forest | +750 |
vs. Duke | +1200 |
at NC State | +1400 |
The Tar Heels are favored to get their first ACC win against one of the next four opponents, before the time-value of the odds drops off significantly. That's because if they haven't won one of these next four, they may not be getting a win at all, as those opponents get tougher at the end. They are +225 underdogs against the Cal Bears tonight, and realistically that may be their best chance on the season outside of Stanford visiting Chapel Hill in a few weeks.

Will Bill Belichick be UNC's Head Coach for 2026 Season?
Result | Odds |
|---|---|
Yes | +250 |
These last two props make it seem like he'll likely finish the season as head coach, but then depart after the season as the two sides decide to go in a different direction. It doesn't seem like Belichick is all that passionate or excited about the UNC job, and is just kind of going through the motions at this point. Based on these odds, he has a 75% chance of making it through the year without getting fired, but just a 28% chance of being the head coach for year two of the deal. It would take a significant turn around for that to happen.
