Saints Next Head Coach Odds: Dennis Allen Is the Early Favorite to Be Named Next Saints Head Coach

Sean Payton has officially stepped away from his role as the New Orleans Saints head coach. With the end of an era, the Saints must now search for the head coach they believe can lead them into a new one. For now, oddsmakers believe that’s going to be Dennis Allen.

The Saints are likely the last team to enter the head coach derby this offseason. With the Giants, Jaguars, Bears, and Broncos already having moved onto the second stage of interviews it could be difficult for the Saints to even get the chance to interview the top candidates this cycle.

New Orleans Saints Next Head Coach

So, the Saints could look internally at their Defensive Coordinator and former Raiders head coach Dennis Allen. He’s given +300 odds, or an implied 25% chance to be named the team’s next head coach. Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is right behind him at +350, or an implied 22.2% chance to land the job. The hottest candidate on the market, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, is third at +400, or an implied 20% chance to take the job.

Perhaps more interesting are the oddsmakers’ longshots given how difficult his hiring process may turn out to be. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and Alabama head coach Nick Saban are given +2000 odds, or an implied 4.8% chance to leave college and return to the NFL. Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is given +4000 odds, or an implied 2.4% chance to land his first NFL job of any kind.

There are three other names of note on the odds market. The Saints are one of the many teams given strong odds to land Brian Flores this offseason, at +800. Despite his strong reputation, Flores isn’t currently considered a favorite to land any of the jobs that are close to hiring. Lions Defensive Coordinator and former Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn is also given +1200 odds to return to New Orleans, this time as the man in charge. Lastly, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is given +2500 odds to leave Dallas and return to New Orleans where he was the Offensive Coordinator from 2000-2004 under Jim Haslett.
