NFL OROY Odds: Dameon Pierce and Kenneth Walker in the Lead Heading Into Week 8
With the season-ending injury to Rashaad Penny, it looked like Kenneth Walker was going to home the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in the NFL, but now Dameon Pierce is right on his tail. Here's a look at the latest NFL OROY odds.

Wan'Dale Robinson NFL OROY Odds: (+1700), Previous (Unranked)Â Bet $100 to collect $1800. Click here for the best odds, available at BetRivers
Wan'Dale Robinson is the new man on the list this week, taking the place of our fallen comrade Breece Hall. While Robinson is not in the best NFL environment for wide receivers, his production in just a couple of games proves he is going to be a force on this New York Giants receiving corps. He has 12 targets, nine receptions, 87 receiving yards, and a score through essentially two games and is benefiting from the lack of other reasonable options in New York.
All of Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, Sterling Shepard, Collin Johnson, and Daniel Bellinger are hurt. That leaves basically Robinson and Darius Slayton as the last wide receivers standing, meaning even in a low-volume passing attack they can put up some big numbers. But missing almost five games puts Robinson way behind the eight-ball for the OROY award, and the Giants' low passing volume (they are 29th in passing rate this year) means Robinson will have trouble competing with the top of this list.
Brian Robinson, Jr. NFL OROY Odds: (+1600), Previous: (+1100)Â Bet $100 to collect $1700. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
Brian Robinson looks just as good on the field as either of the two running backs that populate the top of this list. But it's the "on the field" part that will likely keep Robinson out of the serious conversation to win offensive rookie of the year. Due to a variety of factors (other running backs, Robinson's tragic preseason injury), the Commanders seem committed to not letting him play more than 50% of the snaps so far this year. Can that change? Certainly, but this looks like a messy backfield in Washington.
Robinson's rush attempts and yards have increased in three straight weeks, and he finally saw his first two targets of the year on Sunday. If he can make major moves in the passing game, it would help his cause. But Washington is such a mess at quarterback and Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic remain involved. There is a reason his odds lengthened this past week.

Chris Olave NFL OROY Odds: (+900), Previous: (+1100) Bet $100 to collect $1000. Click here for the best odds, available at Caesars
He may not have scored a touchdown on Sunday after hitting paydirt the previous two weeks, but Olave still had a dominant performance. He is quickly proving - even with Andy Dalton at quarterback - that he is the most talented and utilized wide receiver from this year's class. His seven catches on 14 targets for 106 yards on in Week 7 pushed him slightly up in odds. He leads the world in air yards and looks poised to rack up even more with Jameis Winston set to return.
What Olave likely needs to win this award is for something similar to happen to Pierce and Walker that happened to Breece Hall. The two running backs below him look to have so much usage by the end of the year, it would take something drastic to move him into the pole position. We never root for that to happen, but he is up against two players in the most volatile position in sports. Stranger things have happened.
Dameon Pierce NFL OROY Odds: (+300), Previous: (+550)Â Bet $100 to collect $400. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
If you don't know Dameon Pierce's name and game already, it's high time you familiarize yourself. Since Week 3 of this season, Pierce ranks top-four in rush attempts per game, rushing yards, and share of his team's rush attempts. His three rushing touchdowns rank just outside the top 10 but that's just a product of how poor the Houston Texans' offense is overall.
As you can see, once Breece Hall went down with an injury, Pierce made a massive jump up to the top of these ranks, right alongside Kenneth Walker. Now it's a guessing game to the end of the season. Who gets more work? Who stays healthy? Which team rests starters if they are out of contention? Walker's Seahawks are a surprising story this year, which gives him the current lead, but this is a two-man race right now, which leads me to want to lay some dollars on Pierce at the longer odds.
Kenneth Walker NFL OROY Odds: (+200), Previous: (+850) Bet $100 to collect $300. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
I sincerely hope you heeded my words of just one week ago when Walker was at +850 odds:
"The time is RIGHT NOW to go place a bet on Kenneth Walker to win OROY this season. He jumped from over +1500 odds recently to just +850 and is third on this list due to a season-ending injury suffered by Rashaad Penny. Walker essentially now has the Seattle backfield all to himself, and he is already showing what he can do."
Well, he added to that resume in a big way on Sunday, rushing for 168 yards and two scores. That's now 44 combined rush attempts for Walker in the last two weeks and he is quickly assuming the role of complete bell-cow for this Seattle offense. He is even running routes so involvement in the passing game could be coming soon. He is my current pick for OROY this season, and with this kind of usage, there is not much that can stand in his way.
