Brian Robinson, Jr. NFL OROY Odds: (+5000), Previous (+3000) (Bet $100 to Win $5,100) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
Rookie Brian Robinson's odds may be falling, but my confidence in him as an extreme longshot to win this award is rising. After his performance on Monday against a very tough Eagles defense, it is clear Robinson deserves to be in the conversation with the two running backs who lead this list. He rushed 26 times for 86 yards and a score while playing a season-high 52% of snaps. Imagine if he were to get 65% on a week-to-week basis. We would have a real story on our hands.
Robinson, of course, suffers from not making his debut until October 9th this year. He has the best real-life story of the year with his recovery from a gunshot wound to take over this backfield by mid-season. They should just etch his name in the Comeback Player of the Year award, no matter what the actual rules are for that. But those missed weeks will put him in a volume hole compared to Walker and Pierce below. But he could easily fly up this list with more massive weeks as he had on Monday Night Football.
Garrett Wilson NFL OROY Odds: (+2500), Previous: (+2000) (Bet $100 to Win $2,600) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
It's been a season of peaks and valleys for the talented wide receiver from Ohio State, who was selected 10th overall this past spring. But his last two games have been absolutely stellar, with just a lack of touchdowns weighing down his case for OROY. He amassed 14 catches for 207 yards in those contests, moving him into the top 25 wide receivers in target share (23.1%).
With Corey Davis banged up this year, Elijah Moore persona non grata, and Breece Hall done for the year, Wilson is getting the opportunity. His 26.2% targets per route run rank 25th among receivers with at least 50 snaps. Wilson will, unfortunately, be held down all year by the Jets' offensive game plan and Zach Wilson. The Jets passed only 57% of the time in the last three games. If that's a sign of things to come, the overall volume won't be enough for Wilson to overtake some of these other rookies.
Chris Olave NFL OROY Odds: (+1400), Previous: (+600) (Bet $100 to Win $1,500) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
He may not have scored a touchdown in four weeks, but Olave still has had a dominant season for a rookie, especially considering the poor state of the position for first-year players. Even with Andy Dalton struggling at quarterback, Olave is quickly proving that he is the most talented and utilized wide receiver from this year's class. His five targets on Sunday were the first time since Week 1 that he did not receive at least six in a game.
Olave likely produces the best outcome of all the rookie wide receivers this year, but it may not be enough to hold off the two workhorse running backs ahead of him. The two running backs below him look to have so much usage by the end of the year it would take something drastic to move him into the pole position. We never root for things like injury to happen, but he is up against two players in the most volatile position in sports. That or some otherworldly games in the second half of the season is what it would take for Olave to pass these two. Jameis Winston at quarterback also wouldn't hurt. The Saints are struggling to score points on offense with Dalton (just 23 points in the last two weeks).
Dameon Pierce NFL OROY Odds: (+210), Previous: (+340) (Bet $100 to Win $310) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
Pierce's Sunday game against the New York Giants was a disappointment compared to his massive outburst in Week 9. But he still managed 17 carries for 94 yards and 28 receiving yards, allowing him to inch closer to Kenneth Walker, who struggled. Pierce remains very much in contention for offensive rookie of the year, thanks to the fact that the Texans have completely handed him the keys to the offense and look to run through him as much as they can.
Pierce has been above 72% of the snaps for the Texans in four of his last five games, even though the Texans only have one win in that span. He will likely continue to creep on Kenneth Walker's odds all year long, but with the poor play of the Texans, he may not get the scoring opportunities that Seattle offers to Walker. Seattle's surprising push to the playoffs will put Walker more on a pedestal, even though Pierce may statistically be just as deserving. It's still worth throwing a couple of bets on Pierce at these odds.
Kenneth Walker NFL OROY Odds: (-145), Previous: (+150) (Bet $100 to Win $165) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel
In just six weeks, Walker has gone from over a +1500 long shot to a strong -145 favorite thanks to the injury to Rashaad Penny and the massive usage he is seeing for a surprisingly strong Seahawks team. Even though he had a "bad" game on Sunday (17 rushing yards but six catches for 55 yards), the sheer amount of time he spends on the field means he will put up numbers all year long, assuming he stays healthy. He already has three games with 97+ rushing yards and scored six times in the four games before Sunday.
On Sunday, Walker played in 87% of his team's snaps against the Giants. That represents the highest share of the season, and he is now approaching elite territory in that category. Only Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey average more than 80% of their team's snaps this season, and McCaffrey looks to be in a timeshare now. Walker has been between 73% and 87% of the snaps for four games in a row and is proving he can carry the load as one of the few remaining workhorses in the league.
Proudest husband and dad you will ever find. When I'm not with my wife and two kids I split my time working in higher ed, grinding DFS and season-long, collecting silver age comics, studying behavioral economics, and drinking coffee. I once played Pat Connaughton in an actual NBA DFS lineup for money. Astros, Rockets, and Texans for life.
