NFL Draft Analysis: Expect Ohio State, Georgia to Have Most Players Selected in 2025 NFL Draft

The College Football Playoff endured its first year of expansion in 2024, bringing more programs into the playoff field. History shows that the CFP teams end up with the most draft picks each year, so will it happen again? Mark Harris predicts which college football programs will have the most players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL Draft Analysis: Expect Ohio State, Georgia to Have Most Players Selected in 2025 NFL Draft

Many schools will be represented in tonight's NFL Draft, but some colleges are going to see their players' names called way more frequently than others.

This is when college football's blue bloods truly flex their muscles and continue to fortify their pipeline from high school to college to the pros. Sure, some of the smaller programs will get their moment in the sun on Thursday night when Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty goes in the top 10 and Marshall defensive end Mike Green likely gets selected in the first round (maybe NDSU offensive lineman Grey Zabel as well), but those guys are the exceptions to the rule.

Let's take a look at programs that had double-digit players picked in the 2024 NFL Draft. Hint, it wasn't dominated by the MAC and Conference USA.

  • Michigan Wolverines - 13
  • Texas Longhorns - 11
  • Washington Huskies - 10
  • Alabama Crimson Tide - 10
  • Florida State Seminoles - 10

Would ya look at that, it was the four teams in last year's College Football Playoff and another team that finished the regular season undefeated. Expect the 2025 NFL Draft to follow a similar trend.

With that, here's my prediction for which teams will have the most players taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.

2025 NFL Draft Picks by College

Ohio State Buckeyes

Spoiler! The national champions are well-positioned to have a great weekend. It might actually be a relatively quiet first round for the Ohio State with two of Emeka Egbuka, Josh Simmons and Donovan Jackson expected to go in that range, but the new few rounds should be chalk-full of Buckeyes.

Running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, defensive linemen Tyleik Williams, JT Tuimoloau, and Jack Sawyer, and defensive backs Denzel Burke and Lathan Ransom should all be taken on day two. That's 10 guys right there, and then you get to center Seth McLaughlin, quarterback Will Howard, and a handful more OSU players I haven't mentioned.

Ohio State is certainly capable of tying or breaking Georgia's record of 15 players drafted in 2022.

Texas Longhorns

Take a look at any mock draft and you'll see Longhorns aplenty. Texas really is "back" now and with all of its talent, it's no surprise that it gave Ohio State its toughest test in the College Football Playoff. Sorry, Notre Dame fans.

Speedy wideout Matthew Golden should be a top-16 pick, and offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. is also set to be a first-rounder. Texas QB Quinn Ewers, RB Jaydon Blue, TE Gunnar Helm, and offensive linemen Cameron Williams and Jake Majors will each get picked as well.

The Longhorns stingy defense will also have a good showing. Cornerback Jahdae Barron will probably be the first Texas defender off the board, followed by Alfred Collins, Andrew Mukuba, and Vernon Broughton in later rounds. Like Ohio State, there are for sure some Texas players I haven't gotten to, so anticipate another 10+ player draft for the Longhorns.

Georgia Bulldogs

Can't do a draft prediction story without bringing up the Georgia Bulldogs. It'll be another productive first round for Georgia, as Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, and Malaki Starks project to be selected on Thursday night.

From there, look for offensive linemen Jared Wilson, Tate Ratledge, and Dylan Fairchild to get picked. Wide receivers Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett, RB Trevor Etienne, and linebackers Smael Mondon Jr. and Chaz Chambliss should get selected in the later rounds. Former walk-on safety Dan Jackson could also be taken in the Mr. Irrelevant range.

Ole Miss Rebels

Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart is a huge lightning rod in this draft. Many mocks have the dynamic Dart off the board at No. 9 to the New Orleans Saints, but if they opt for Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders or don't take a QB, then he could drop to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21. Who knows, he may slide to the second round.

Defensive tackle Walter Nolen seems like a guaranteed to go in the first round, however. His fellow Ole Miss defensive linemen Princely Umanmielen, JJ Pegues, and Jared Ivey will also be selected.

Look for WR Tre Harris and CB Trey Amos to hear their names on Friday night, and for TE Caden Prieskorn and Chris Paul Jr. to get nabbed up in the later rounds.

Oregon Ducks

It's easy to forget that Oregon entered the College Football Playoff as the top seed, and as such, many Ducks will be flying to their new NFL homes.

Defensive tackle Derrick Harmon appears to be the only lock to go in the first round, although offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. could sneak into Thursday's action.

Defensive end Jordan Burch, TE Terrance Ferguson, LB Jeffrey Bassa, and DT Jamaree Caldwell will be drafted in the middle rounds. Running back Jordan James will be a late-round pick, while offensive lineman Ajani Cornelius and uber-experienced QB Dillon Gabriel are question marks. Tez Johnson probably gets taken too, but his slow 40-yard dash time could really hurt him.
