2022 British Open Odds and Picks: Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris Are Worth Early Looks

2022 British Open Odds and Picks: Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris Are Worth Early Looks
Colin Morikawa will look to defend his Open Championship title in just over a week’s time, as the 150th edition is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, July 14th. Back at the Old Course at St. Andrews, Tiger Woods will be making his return to competitive golf, looking to add his 16th major as he fights father time and, as of now, his own body.
As of this week, Rory McIlroy sits atop the leaderboard at just (+800), while Jon Rahm (+1100), and Scottie Scheffler (+1200) follow closely behind. With the Scottish Open and Barbasol Championship still to play this weekend, let’s take a quick look ahead at how things might shake out at the 2022 Open Championship.

2022 British Open Course Preview: Old Course at St. Andrews
The birthplace of golf, according to many, The Old Course at St. Andrews is one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world and has been home to some of the best majors the sport has ever seen. A true links course, St. Andrews runs along Scotland’s eastern seaboard, making high wends a factor almost every year.
At just over 7,300 yards, the course is longer than the Tour average, giving players with a long ball an advantage as they overpower the course. St. Andrews is also known for its bunkers, with 112 total making for some of the most uncomfortable likes these golfers will see all season.

2022 British Open Outright Picks
Scottie Scheffler (+1200) (Bet $100 to Win $1200)
His T8 last season at the Open Championship started the historic run he’s currently on, where he seemingly competes in every tournament he enters. In his 25 events played this season, Scheffler has 15 top 25s, nine top 10s, and four outright wins, his most recent being the Masters.
With a T2 finish at the US Open, which played as difficult as any course this season, Scheffler feels like a steal at anything greater than +1000, and I’m grabbing him at this price while it lasts.
Will Zalatoris (+2500) (Bet $100 to Win $2500)
Still, in search of his first win on the PGA Tour, it’s just a matter of time for Zalatoris, right? Coming into this week, Zalatoris has eight top 10s on the season, including three runner-ups, perhaps none more dramatic than the US Open a few weeks ago in Brookline. That also includes a runner-up at the PGA Championship.
Looking back at all of his majors over the past two years, no one has gained more strokes than Zalatoris and if not for an insane shot out of the bunker from Matthew Fitzpatrick on 18 at the US Open, enters this week as a US Open champion.
Add in the fact he’s currently top 10 in SG: Approach, SG: Tee-to-Green, and SG: Total, and I like for Zalatoris to find himself in the mix once again come Sunday afternoon in Scotland.
