PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands

After one of the hardest U.S. Open's in recent memory, the 2025 Travelers Championship will tee off from Connecticut this week and give PGA Tour stars a bit of a reprieve. Matt MacKay breaks down who is best set up for success at TPC River Highlands in his PGA Power Rankings for this week's tournament.

PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 Golfers For 2025 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands

Following J.J. Spaun's epic walk-off win via 60-foot birdie putt at the 2025 U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads to Cromwell, Connecticut for the 2025 Travelers Championship. It's the final Signature Event of the year, meaning this condensed field of golfers in the top of the FedExCup rankings will play without a cut line enforced at TPC River Highlands.

This is a par 70, just like Oakmont last week. However, this is where their similarities end. TPC River Highlands averaged 67.6 per round at this course in 2024, which made it the lowest scoring average on a par 70 last season.

Birdies should be flowing this week. Running only 6,844 yards, there are several water hazards and plenty of tree-lined fairways to challenge errant tee shots. Especially with fescue-bluegrass rough grown to 4.5 inches. Poa annua greens are expected to run up to 12 feet via Stimpmeter, much slower due to lack of undulations that challenged golfers on Oakmont's expansive Poa annua surfaces.

Scottie Scheffler returns to defend his title at the Travelers Championship, beating Tom Kim in a one-hole playoff last year. Oddsmakers have Scheffler's outright winner betting line set to +300 odds. Rory McIlroy (+1200), Xander Schauffele (+1600), Collin Morikawa (+1800), Patrick Cantlay (+2500) and Ludvig Åberg (+2500) round out the top betting favorites at TPC River Highlands.

PGA Power Rankings: Travelers Championship

1. Scottie Scheffler (+300) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Travelers Championship odds

After getting beat up by Oakmont, Scheffler should return to form at a course that rewards ball-striking. The World No. 1 now has a top 10 finish or better in eight consecutive events following his T7 finish at the 2025 U.S. Open.

Ranks first total strokes gained, including first SG: Approach, proximity, par 4s and scoring average. Fifth putting average, 10th at finding greens in regulation and second SG: Off-the-Tee.

Scheffler's tee-to-green efficiency should be on full display at TPC River Highlands this week. There's no reason to fade him during his title defense.

2. Xander Schauffele (+1600) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Travelers Championship odds

Xander Schauffele won the 2022 Travelers Championship. He should be comfortable stepping onto the tee box, averaging 66.19 in his previous 20 rounds played at this event.

Schauffele has been flying under the radar a bit. Eighth SG: Approach, 35th driving distance, and 29th on approach shots from 200+ yards. Driving accuracy, proximity and putting have been an issue for last year's two-time major champion.

Coming off of a T12 at the U.S. Open. T11 and T25 at the previous two Signature Events played since mid-May. Oddsmakers continue to respect Schauffele's game and previous form at TPC River Highlands, valuing him at 16-1 in the outright betting market.

3. Justin Thomas (+2800) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Travelers Championship odds

After snapping a three-year win drought with a clutch playoff win at the RBC Heritage in late April, Justin Thomas has been inconsistent with his performances. It's worth noting he did log a T2 finish at the Truist Championship, which came against a Signature Event field.

Thomas also turned in a T31 finish at the Memorial Tournament, while missing the cut at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open last weekend. Carded a T5 finish at the 2024 Travelers Championship, going 4-under-par or lower in three of four rounds.

Ranks sixth total strokes gained in 2025, including 12th SG: Approach and 15th SG: Putting. Off-the-tee is where Thomas' issues lie, especially with his driving accuracy. The fairways at TPC River Highlands aren't overly narrow, while most of the par 4s run under 450 yards.

Leads PGA Tour in birdie average and putting average, so don't discount Thomas at 28-1 in the outright winner betting market this week.

4. Sepp Straka (+7000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Travelers Championship odds

Sepp Straka's game should translate well to TPC River Highlands. He struggled at Oakmont, like many golfers in the field, missing the cut at a second consecutive major.

The Austrian turned in a T23 finish at the 2024 Travelers Championship. In 2025, Straka has two outright wins, with a recent victory at the Truist Championship.

Ranks third SG: Approach, 23rd SG: Putting, ninth driving accuracy, second at finding greens in regulation and fifth proximity. Fifth scoring average, 12th on par 4s and second in birdie average are all quality metrics that suggest backing Straka to contend for his third win on the PGA Tour this season.

5. Brian Harman (+9000) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best Travelers Championship odds

Dipping down into longshot odds is where we can find Brian Harman. He's been one of the most consistent golfers at TPC River Highlands, recording seven top 10 finishes and making the cut in 12 of 14 appearances.

Harman won the Valero Texas Open earlier this season and has two top 10 finishes. Ranks 41st driving accuracy, 38th proximity and top 50 for sand save percentage. He's struggled to maintain consistency with his irons and putter in 2025.

We've seen Harman post a nice stretch in April, winning the Valero Texas Open in windy conditions, then following that up with a T3 finish at the RBC Heritage. A recent skid of T46-T60-T46-MC-T59 is why we're getting value on Harman in the outright winner betting market at 90-1.

Don't discount the left-handed Georgia native as a dark horse contender at a course he's extremely comfortable navigating.
