The Chicago White Sox are in Minnesota, taking on the Twins. Can the Twins light up Lance Lynn tonight? Ben Rajavuori breaks it all down.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction: Can The Twins Light Up Lance Lynn Tonight?

It's always a dangerous thing to be on your own team in sports, but there are times when it is warranted. After all, no one else knows your team as well as you, but it's important not to let emotions get in the way. I'm backing my Twins tonight for the second time this season, but not straight up on the moneyline, but rather their team total.

The White Sox are still in Minneapolis tonight for the second game of this three-game series, and the Twins need this win to force a rubber match tomorrow in the finale. The pitching matchup favors the twins much more than it did yesterday as well, with Lance Lynn on the mound for the White Sox and newly-acquired Pablo Lopez on the mound for the Twins.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction

Taking the mound for the White Sox tonight is Lance Lynn, and it's safe to say he is not as dominant as his counterpart, which held the Twins down to one earned run over five runs yesterday. Lancy Lynn joined the White Sox in 2021, and he had a very good year that season, posting a 2.69 ERA in 28 starts. However, last year he faced some regression, posting a 3.55 ERA in 21 starts. He now has a 9.00 ERA over his first two starts this season, most recently getting blown up for eight earned runs in 4.1 innings against the Giants. His numbers have also not been good against the Twins.

Last season, Lynn had three starts against the Twins. He went five innings with five earned runs, five innings with six earned runs, and five innings with four earned runs. In his three starts against the Twins last season, he totaled a 9.0 ERA. I know that was with Luis Arraez and Carlos Correa, both of whom are not in the lineup tonight (one isn't on the team), but Correa was actually only a .200 hitter off Lynn lifetime, and he has struggled to open the 2023 season. The rest of the roster is .271 off Lynn. The Twins also have Kyle Farmer now, who has been a .333 hitter at Target Field to open his season with the Twins.

The Twins were able to run up Cease's pitch count early yesterday, which was significant to today's game because the Twins thinned out an already thin bullpen. Most notably, Joe Kelly and Liam Hendricks are injured, but there are other bullpen injuries as well, and the Twins forced four bullpen pitchers out of the game yesterday, putting the White Sox in a tough spot. Lynn only made it 4.1 innings in his last start, and if he runs up his pitch count early like Cease yesterday, the Twins should feast off a thinned bullpen.

The Twins haven't been an amazing offensive team to start the season, which is why this total is so low, but this is a perfect game for their bats to explode. They have crushed Lynn in their recent starts against him, and Lynn is coming into this game off an iffy start to the 2023 season. The White Sox also have a shaky bullpen at the moment, and they are also committing the third-most errors on defense to start the season. The Twins should find five runs in today's game.
