Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction: Can Reds Put Up Runs Against Patrick Corbin, Nationals?

It’s been a tough couple of seasons for Patrick Corbin. After helping the Nationals win a World Series back in 2019, Corbin hasn’t registered an ERA lower than 5.20 in each of the last three seasons. He’s getting paid like an ace, but after losing the Opening Day start to Josiah Gray, it’s clear Corbin is way past his prime. The Reds put up eight runs against Josiah on Thursday, how many will they score against Corbin in his first start of the season?

Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction

I don’t think Corbin is going to have a good outing on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean the Nationals will be completely out of this game. Hunter Greene logged a 7.20 ERA this spring, and it’s going to be a warm afternoon in Cincinnati. Baseballs will be flying at the Great American Ballpark on Saturday with two struggling pitchers still trying to find their groove.

This total opened up at 8.5 before getting steamed up to double digits this morning. The weather has a big impact on this total moving up, as this is already a hitters-friendly park. Add in some warm weather and the wind blowing out to right-center, and you’ve got a recipe for runs. Seeing a total move up nearly two runs is already a great sign for the over, especially in a Reds home game. This game is starting to look like the first team to score double-digit runs wins…

The Nationals offense didn’t show up on Opening Day, but we know how scrappy they can be. They will be hungry to avenge a 2-run performance on Thursday against a struggling young pitcher. Whether it’s Greene walking the bases or Corbin getting crushed, all it’s going to take for this game to go over is one of these two struggling starters to implode. That’s not too much to ask considering their recent track records and today’s hitter-friendly weather.

Bet this over before the total rises any higher. It’s sitting at o/u 10 on most books currently, and the juice on the over continues to rise. As much as I’d love to say we can back Corbin at plus-money today, I just don’t see the veteran lefty succeeding under these circumstances. Expect plenty of runs from both sides, and at least one of these teams to put up a crooked number in the first couple of innings. This game will soar over the total by the 7th-inning stretch.
