Don’t let the Mets get hot! It might be too late, as the surging Mets are now back to .500 after an abysmal start to the season. Tonight they’ll face one of the more underrated young arms in baseball as the Pirates look to even up the series against the Mets. Will New York struggle against the young flamethrower for the Pirates, or will Jones struggle on the road against the red-hot Mets?

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets Prediction
On paper, the Pirates young starter doesn’t have the best matchup. He is very reliant on strikeouts, and the Mets are one of the more patient teams in baseball. If Jones was struggling with his command and racking up walks at the start of the season, I’d be more worried, but the young right-hander hasn’t walked anyone in his last two outings. As long as Jones fills the strike zone on Tuesday, he will find success once again tonight.
Jose Quintana has been solid for the Mets in his three starts. Tonight, he will have a great matchup against his former team. The Pirates struggle facing left-handed pitching. They are currently batting below .240 against LHP this season. I give the edge to Quintana in this matchup as the Pirates bats continue to cool off after a great start to the season.
After last night’s series opener went over the total, it’s weird to see tonight’s total so low. Yesterday’s starters are regarded much higher than tonight’s starters. If that’s the case, then why did this total for tonight open up at o/u 7.5? The juice on the under is also growing throughout the day, which is weird considering more than 60% of the bets and handle (on VSIN) are currently backing this over. This reverse line movement is a great sign for under bettors…
Aroldis Chapman was ejected last night after arguing balls and strikes… if he gets a chance to pitch tonight I’m fully expecting him to get his revenge. Edwin Diaz might be unavailable for the Mets after pitching back to back nights, but I’m predicting the Pirates to be up in this game in a low-scoring affair. Their bullpen is the one we should care about, and their closer David Bednar finally looked sharp in his appearance earlier this week. After a few days off, I’m expecting to see Bednar in this game whether the Pirates are winning or not, just as long as it’s a low-scoring game (which we are obviously already banking on here).
With the odds on this under getting higher and higher as the afternoon progresses, lock it in before we see the total drop to o/u 7. I’m trusting both of these starters to minimize the offensive production early on, and a fairly rested Pirates bullpen to close this one out. There’s a reason this total is moving down at an already low number after last night’s series opener went over…
