In yesterday's loss, Hunter Greene only gave the Reds four innings of work, and in the game prior, Frankie Montas pitched just two innings. As a result, the Reds' bullpen comes into tonight's game fairly taxed. Abbott should have a longer leash in hopes he can deliver an extended outing to give his bullpen some much needed rest.
In his last start, he threw over 100 pitches, which means his arm is stretched and should have the pitch count to get him through 16 outs. The Mariners have done an excellent job at working counts this season, but haven't done a whole lot of damage. Seattle currently ranks 21st in wRC+ (89), 26th in first-five inning runs per game (1.50), and 26th in batting average (.213). If Abbott can avoid long at-bats to keep his pitch count in check, I expect him to go over his 15.5 pitching outs prop.
