The player I’m targeting in tonight’s game is Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker. Rooker has been the best hitter for the Athletics this season, batting .279 with a .538 slugging percentage and 18 home runs overall. Rooker has been a lone bright spot in a dark season for the Athletics, and I think he has another great game tonight.
Rooker has been absolutely smashing left-handed pitching this season, as he has a .986 OPS versus left-handed pitching this year. Compared to his .875 OPS against right-handed pitching, it’s clear that he hits the ball much harder against lefties. Rooker has 18 home runs this season, and seven of them have come against left-handed pitching despite having nearly one-quarter of the at-bats against left-handed pitchers. He is averaging a home run every nine at-bats against left-handed pitching in 2024.
