Besides Arizona’s 1-0 win last night, both of these offenses in this series starting up tonight have been red-hot. Toronto just put up 15 runs in their last two games combined, and Arizona’s offense has gotten them back to .500 on the season. Both offenses have great matchups against sub-par starting pitchers in Friday night’s series opener…
Yariel Rodriguez is coming off some of the best starts of his young career. Can the 27 year old righty from Cuba keep this up? It’s not looking great, as the total in this game opened up at 9.5. It’s sitting at 9 on most books now, but that’s a very high opening line for a total between a team that only scored one run last night facing a pitcher in the best stretch of his young career. A high opening total in this spot tells me we’re getting runs at Rodriguez and Nelson’s expense.
Luckily for Toronto, they won’t be the only team with a mediocre starting pitcher on the mound. The Diamondbacks are trotting out Ryne Nelson and his 5.08 ERA on Friday night. He has also pitched well in his last couple of starts, but how long will that last? I’m willing to bet that this red-hot Toronto offense picks apart Nelson, putting up plenty of runs early and often in this series opener.
