Logan Gilbert has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers in baseball this season. He is coming off his first All Star selection and a couple of great starts to begin the second half of the MLB season. His opponent tonight just lost their last two games in a row, and will be trotting out Nick Pivetta coming off debatably the worst outing of his career. Don’t the Mariners look like the easiest play on the board in this spot?
You never want to be on an “easy-looking” play. That is exactly what the sportsbooks want, as you should never feel too comfortable with your bet. If you do, that probably means you’re on the square side. Who wants to back Nick Pivetta with their hard-earned money after his last outing when he gave up eight runs on 10 hits? Absolutely nobody, and that’s exactly the side we want to be on…
It’s weird seeing an All Star with a sub-3.00 ERA as an underdog against a pitcher with a 4.50 ERA who is coming off his worst career outing. The Red Sox have actually caught some steam on the moneyline as well, moving from (-120) to (-125) most places. With the total on the rise as well from 8 to 8.5, it doesn’t look like Logan Gilbert is going to be throwing another gem. If he was, the Mariners would be favorites and the total would be moving down, not up.
Fade the Mariners on their 3-game win streak and back the Red Sox after consecutive losses to their rival, the Yankees. I want to buy-low on Pivetta after a brutal start, and although Logan Gilbert’s been good on the road this year, his earned runs prop sitting at (-120) to the over tells me he will be giving up some early runs in this contest. I’ll meet you at the cash counter after Pivetta shockingly outperforms Gilbert at Fenway Park on Monday.
