The Philadelphia Phillies travel to Seattle tonight to take on the Mariners in a three-game weekend series from T-Mobile Park. The Phillies are second in baseball and first in the NL East with a record of 65–43, but they have last four games in a row to move down from MLB’s number one spot. Meanwhile, the Mariners are now second in the AL West with a record of 57–53, as the Astros have taken over the number one spot in the division. What should we expect in this series opener from Seattle tonight?

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
The Seattle Mariners will send out Bryan Woo to the mound first tonight. Woo has been an excellent piece to one of the MLB‘s best rotations this year, as the Mariners starting pitching rotation has ranked second in baseball in ERA.
Woo is 4-1 with a 2.35 ERA this season. He has been even more dominant at home this year, sporting a 1.27 ERA in four starts at home, allowing just to .155 opponent batting average. Woo has never pitched against the Phillies before, giving him the advantage in this matchup tonight. On the other side, Tyler Phillips will get the ball first for the Phillies. Phillips is a rookie out of New Jersey who has made a lasting impression over his first four starts in the MLB. Phillips is coming off a nine-inning game against the Guardians last time out, which in addition to his start against the Pirates prior, has seen him pitch 15 scoreless innings over his last two appearances. He has now gotten the win in his last three starts and looked very impressive in doing so. He faces a Mariners offense that has gone ice cold this season, as the Mariners have ranked 28th over the last month against righties.
While both pitchers have looked equally impressive, I think Bryan Woo and the Mariners will get the upper hand in tonight's outing. The Mariners have the edge, both in starting pitching in the bullpen tonight, and the Phillies will be traveling across the country from the east coast to the west coast with an extremely late start time tonight, as the Phillies will be starting at 9:40 pm local time. It’s never easy when the east coast teams travel to the west coast, and with this being the first game of the road trip for the Phillies, I could see the bats starting out slow. I expect the Mariners to take a close, low-scoring game tonight at pick ‘em odds.
