The Nationals are struggling right now, and MacKenzie Gore hasn’t looked sharp over the last couple of weeks. Will Gore and the Nats bounce back after last night’s loss, or will they struggle to score at home once again?
MacKenzie Gore has really struggled for the better part of the last two months. His ERA in July was a 7.62, and it wasn’t much better in June (5.13). The young lefty is trending in the wrong direction, but a matchup against a Giants team that strikes out at a much higher rate against LHP. Could this be his bounce-back start?

I am expecting Gore to pitch much better on Tuesday, and with the total dropping from 9 to 8.5 on some books it’s looking like oddsmakers are expecting a bounce-back start from him as well. Unfortunately for the Nationals, Gore won’t be the only young starter thriving on Tuesday night…
Hayden Birdsong is coming off his best career major league start. He allowed zero runs against the Rockies in five innings of work. The 22 year old is stretched out and ready for another matchup against a struggling offense on Tuesday. The Nationals have struggled offensively since trading away Jesse Winker and Lane Thomas, and I’m not expecting any improvement against the Giants surging young starter.
Both of these offenses have struggled at times of late, and with the odds on the total moving towards the under I’m expecting a pitchers duel between two young arms on Tuesday. These bullpens aren’t great, but the way these offenses have looked I’m willing to bet they keep this game under the number. I’ll meet you at the cash counter when the Nats offense struggles once again and MacKenzie Gore throws a gem for the first time in months.
