ANALYSIS

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels Betting Pick: Can Angels Light Up Kevin Gausman, Jays?

The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels Square off in game two of their series tonight from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The Angels are sitting at 52–67 this season, which is fourth place in the AL West. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, are last place in the AL East with a record of 55–64. Neither team currently looks like they will go to the playoffs, but they could make a run and potentially secure a wild card. Either way, this should be a good contest tonight in Anaheim.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction

The Blue Jays will send out Kevin Gausman to the bump first. Gausman has been pretty average this year, to say the least, as he is sporting a 4.42 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. This is the highest ERA he has had so far in Toronto, and while he has had some good starts this season, it seems like he has struggled to consistently put together a string of quality starts.

His last start was excellent, as he went eight innings against the Orioles with only two earned runs, but in the start before that, he lasted just 4.2 innings against the Yankees and gave up four earned runs. Even so, the Blue Jays have given him some good run support as of late, as they have won five of his last starts despite him giving up for earned runs in two of them.

On the other side, Carson Fulmer will get the ball first for the Angels. Fulmer spent a lot of time in the bullpen over the last five years as he has jumped from team to team, starting in Chicago before a short stint in Detroit, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and now the Angels. Fulmer pitched very well out of the bullpen this year and has recently been moved into the starting role where he made his last few appearances.

While Fulmer does not have overwhelming stuff, he has gone back-to-back starts allowing just two earned runs. Fulmer is sporting a 3.74 ERA this season and has been good in his role up to this point. Fulmer should be OK tonight because the Toronto offense has been sputtering as of late. Over the last two weeks, Toronto ranks 23rd in overall batting average and 25th in OPS. The Blue Jays have gone 10–10 over their last 20 games and have struggled on the road a lot this season. While the Angels have also gone 10–10 over the last 20 games, their offense has been better than the Blue Jays over the same stretch and I trust their bats a little bit more.

The Blue Jays took game one by a score of 4–2, but I think the Angels will actually hit well off Gausman tonight and be more competitive in this game. the books are favoring the Blue Jays in this game and expect them to take one, but I like getting the angels at plus money in this spot. Back the angels to bounce back and game two and even the series tonight 1-1.
