Missouri Tigers vs. Pittsburgh Panthers Prediction
It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Missouri, who’s dropped games to Memphis and Jackson State already. A loss to Jackson State as 23-point favorites has to be a wake-up call for the Tigers, who have yet to cover a game this season (0-7 ATS).
Pittsburgh has taken care of business for the most part this season, with their only loss coming against Florida as 5.5 point underdogs. The Panthers are 5-1 ATS this season, coming off a big win against Oregon State.
This is the perfect “buy low, sell high” spot. I believe in Dennis Gates and what he’s building at Missouri, and although they don’t have Kobe Brown or D’Moi Hodge anymore, they still have Nick Honor running the point and a slew of transfers who are going to continue to improve with time. This Tigers’ lineup has a lot of new pieces, and although it’s taking Coach Gates some time, they will start to find their stride as the season goes on. There is too much talent on this roster to be 0-7 ATS.
This Pitt team shocked the world last year when they snuck into the NCAA tournament. I’m not a Jeff Capel guy, and I want to “sell high” on this program that’s endured one of the easier schedules in the country to start the season.
Missouri is one of the slowest teams in the nation. I’m willing to bet this Mizzou team makes Pitt extremely uncomfortable tonight, slowing them down and taking them out of rhythm. Nick Honor is a veteran guard who will have no problem slowing down the tempo, and Noah Carter plays bigger in the paint than his 6’6” height suggests. He is fully capable of slowing down Federiko Federiko, Pitt’s big man.
Fade this over-performing Pittsburgh team and back the Missouri Tigers tonight, who have yet to cover a game this season. Caleb Grill and Connor Vanover have a lot to prove to this Mizzou fanbase; tonight is the night they catch Pitt sleeping and get their first cover of the season. I’ll grab seven points with Dennis Gates against Jeff Capel any day of the week.
