LSU vs. Missouri Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can Missouri Handle Jayden Daniels, LSU?

Two SEC teams are set for a collision course at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri this weekend, as the Missouri Tigers host the LSU Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

The last time these teams met, back in 2020, Missouri pulled off the outright win as 14-point underdogs, seizing a 45-41 victory. Now, Missouri is undefeated and has a ton of momentum entering a big game at home against LSU, who just lost to Ole Miss during one of the highest scoring matchups of the 2023 college football season.

Missouri's head coach, Eli Drinkwitz, is now in his fourth year with the Tigers' program, slowly improving their team from six win seasons, to a currently undefeated 5-0 record. Meanwhile, LSU head coach, Brian Kelly, has stumbled out of the gate this season, losing two games outright, blowing a lead with bad defense against Ole Miss, and getting routed by Florida State to start the season.

Can Mizzou take advantage of their opponent coming off of a disgruntling loss? Or will LSU's offense prove to be too much for Missouri to handle? NCAAF handicapper Matt MacKay gives us his prediction and pick for LSU vs. Missouri on Saturday afternoon.

LSU vs. Missouri Prediction

Missouri's quarterback, Brady Cook, has yet to throw an interception, completing 74.5 percent of his pass attempts for 1,468 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's firing on all cylinders, and now, he gets a plus-matchup against LSU's defense, which has surrendered 86 points in its last two games played.

LSU's offense runs through quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is a true dual-threat quarterback, leading the Tigers in carries (60) and rushing touchdowns (3), along with a 73 percent completion rate and 16 touchdowns to only two interceptions. LSU has playmakers all over its offense, but they couldn't hold on during a road game to Ole Miss in Week 5, which included a late possession where they stalled and were forced to punt.

LSU nearly blew the game during its 34-31 win against Arkansas in Week 4, so Missouri's offense is getting a favorable matchup on home turf for this matchup. Yes, Mizzou hasn't played nearly as tough of a schedule compared to LSU, but they did deliver a 61-yard walk-off field goal to beat Kansas State in Week 3, keeping them undefeated and instilling a ton of confidence throughout its offense.

Missouri's defense isn't bad either, ranking 42nd in the country allowing 20.8 points per game. It's stout against the run, allowing only one rushing touchdown this season and 2.5 YPC, but the pass defense is a concern, surrendering eight receiving touchdowns and at least 259 passing yards across each of their last three games. LSU's offense is twice as good as Kansas State, Memphis, and Vanderbilt, which is why oddsmakers have set the point total line to 63.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook.

LSU is currently laying 6.5 points ATS, making them touchdown favorites on the road against an undefeated Missouri team due to its quality offensive production. The question that needs to be asked is whether or not LSU will continue to unravel during Kelly's second season. The defense is in shambles, and a noon kickoff on the road doesn't make the task of containing Brady Cook and top wideout Luther Burden any easier.

Factoring in LSU's motivation from its loss 55-49 loss to Ole Miss, combined with Missouri's ability to keep pace on offense, makes over 63.5 total points look like the best bet to make in this SEC matchup on Saturday's noon slate.
