Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Longhorns Prediction

The Oklahoma Sooners have started the season with a 5-0 record. They've defeated many mediocre teams but have earned wins by at least 14 points or more in all of those games.

They're led by Dillon Gabriel, who is still in the Heisman race. The veteran quarterback has thrown for 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions, with nearly 1600 yards.

Oklahoma averages over 500 yards per game, including 157.6 yards on the ground. They've thrown more with Gabriel but are still consistent on the ground.

They'll face a Texas defense that has been terrific in coverage. The Longhorns have also been solid as a run defense, allowing 94.6 yards per game. But the Longhorns have struggled to tackle at a consistent rate.

With all of the skill that Oklahoma has on offense, that's not good.

On the other hand, Texas is led by Quinn Ewers. He, like Gabriel, is also in the Heisman talk. Ewers has thrown for ten touchdowns and 1358 yards this season. He's also thrown just one interception.

Still, Texas is less reliant on Ewers and has run the football for 191.8 yards per game. Meanwhile, the passing game has averaged 286.6 yards.

Texas is a terrific offense, but they'll run into trouble trying to run on Oklahoma. The Sooners have held teams to 106.2 yards per game, and they'll take on a Texas offensive line that hasn't blocked particularly well in the run game.

Oklahoma's looked terrific in the secondary and have been much better tackling.

Texas has major wins against Alabama and Kansas. But they've played many teams with poor quarterback play or backups.

This will be the Longhorns' first real test defensively.

I'll ride Oklahoma at +5.
