7 minMiami (OH) vs. Toledo Prediction, Pick, Odds: Do DeQuan Finn, Rockets Have the Edge In MAC Championship?
Conference championship weekend kicks off with the MAC Championship at Ford Field, with the Miami (OH) Redhawks facing the Toledo Rockets for the second time this season.
Miami only lost twice this season, one of which came at home against Toledo in late October, falling into a 21-3 half time deficit before attempting a second half comeback. The Redhawks' defense is its strength, ranked eighth out of 133 FBS programs, allowing only 16.3 points per game. The offense is capable of scoring, ranked 63rd in the FBS in points per game, however, the Redhawks haven't had to score more than 23 points in three straight games.
Toledo possesses a top-30 scoring offense and defense, led by ninth-year head coach Jason Candle. Candle has the Rockets at 11-1 this season, their best record during his tenure, building off of a nine-win season in 2022 that saw Toledo win the MAC Championship 17-7 over Ohio University. They had a tough challenge against Miami a few weeks ago though, building an early lead to hold onto a 21-17 win.
NCAAF handicapper Matt MacKay is back with his latest prediction and pick for the MAC Championship game between Miami (OH) vs. Toledo.

MIAMI (OH) VS. TOLEDO PREDICTION
Oddsmakers have Toledo favored as more than a touchdown favorite in this MAC Championship game, attempting to defend their title from a year ago. The Rockets are led by quarterback DeQuan Finn and running backs Jacquez Stuart, Micah Kelly, and Peny Boone. Jerjuan Newton is the WR1, hauling in 53 receptions for 830 yards and nine touchdowns for the Rockets this season.
Miami allowed Toledo to go 46-158-1 on the ground during their first meeting, but expect the Redhawks to be dialed in early in this game. Miami has held its opponents to 3.6 yards per carry this season, while only surrendering one rushing touchdown in its last three games played. They are equally as stout defending the pass, with only two touchdown receptions recorded across its last four games, including against quality offenses like Ohio.
The Redhawks' rushing attack could exploit the Rockets' weakness on defense, as Toledo has been allowed two rushing touchdowns in three of its past five games. Miami's offense leans into the run to pick up yards and sustain long drives, complimented by a strong defense. Four of Miami's last five games have gone under the point total line, which is currently set to 45.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Toledo has failed to cover the spread in six of its last seven games played at neutral sites, while Miami is 9-3 ATS this season. The Redhawks, outside of a 38-3 loss against Miami (FL) in Week 1, haven't lost a game by more than four points. This is the line to invest in, as the Redhawks will be seeking revenge and deploy their air-tight defense to keep the Rockets within reach, managing to cover as 8.5-point underdogs ATS.
