Notre Dame vs. Penn State Prediction
Penn State comes into this game with a record of 13-2. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions will attempt to claim their first National Championship since 1986. Over the last decade, Penn State has produced some great teams in the Big Ten, but this year was the Nittany Lions' first College Football Playoff Appearance.
Penn State defeated SMU in the first round with a 38-10 thumping. The Nittany Lions followed that up with a comfortable 31-14 win over Boise State on New Year's Eve.
Quarterback Drew Allar announced that he would be returning to Happy Valley before the playoffs started. However, Allar has jumped up in the draft boards after his recent performances, and some believe Allar could be headed to the NFL after this CFP run.
On the other sideline, the Irish begin pay with a 13-1 record. Notre Dame started the year with a notable win over Texas A&M. The good feeling of that win did not last long, as the Northern Illinois Huskies defeated Notre Dame in Week 2. The Fighting Irish responded to that loss by ripping off 12 straight wins.
Marcus Freeman has led his team to a 6-0 record against Top 25 teams this year. Notre Dame beat Indiana, 27-17, in the first round on December 20th. The Fighting Irish defeated Georgia, 23-10, a week later to advance to this semifinal.
Notre Dame has opened as a -1.5 favorite in this Orange Bowl battle, and the total is set at 45.5.
