Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl Player Prop Prediction
Mahomes is under this number in both playoff games, but this game should be different and here’s why. Prior to the two playoff games, Mahomes had thrown the ball 37+ times in nine of the last 10 games. In the two playoff games, he only threw the ball 25 and 26 times. The Chiefs played in two cold weather games, and were playing ahead for a majority of it. I don’t expect that to be the case in this game with such a tight spread and pretty even matchup, in a dome where weather is no issue.
The Eagles are also a team that is great at stopping the run and the Chiefs are one of the worst teams in the NFL when it comes to explosive run plays. So, I expect the Chiefs to do most of their damage through the air. The Eagles play a lot of 2-high (4th-most Cover 4 and Most Cover 6). Mahomes had the 7th-highest PFF passing grade vs. Cover 4 and 3rd-highest passing grade vs. Cover 6 this season. Most teams won’t take too many shots downfield vs. these coverages, but I’d expect Andy Reid to scheme up some different ways to attack it and see more success than other teams have vs. Philly.
The Eagles have also allowed 10 of the last 11 QBs to have 28+ pass attempts. Mahomes pass attempts line is set at 36.5. When he passes 28+ times, he’s thrown for 260+ pass yards in eight of hist last 11 games. I think the Chiefs rely on a big game from Mahomes here just like he’s done in past Super Bowls. He has 270+ pass yards and 42+ pass attempts in three of four career Super Bowls, and I am expecting him find success here despite a tough matchup.
