LIV Golf Bangkok Odds, Picks, and Longshot Predictions
We are on to event No. 6 of the 2022 LIV Golf Series as we now head overseas to Bangkok, Thailand for this week’s event. Running from Friday to Sunday, the tournament will be hosted by the newly minuted Stonehill Golf Course.
As with past events, $20 million will be on the line in total winnings, as the winning team will walk away with $5 million. The winner of the event will leave Thailand with $4 million in individual prize money alone.
Course Preview: Stonehill Golf Course
Located just north of Bangkok, Stonehill is a brand new course and already one of the most exclusive in all of Thailand. As we see in many resort courses, the fairways and greens are larger than players are used to seeing on the PGA Tour.
Given its newness, there is little else known about the course, but with no course history, the field is as open as it can be.
LIV Golf Bangkok Event Preview
Winning the LIV Boston event in September, Dustin Johnson returns this week as the odds-on favorite at +450, followed closely by LIV newcomer Cameron Smith (+500). Smith also won his first LIV event last month, walking away with the LIV Chicago title and over $5 million in total earnings.
Outside of the top two, Joaquin Niemann (+700), Taylor Gooch (+1400), and Louis Oosthuizen (+1800) round out the top five betting favorites for the week. Now that we know who’s favored to walk away victorious, let’s take a look at a couple of players I’m keyed in on for the 48-man field, which of course features a shotgun start and team component.
LIV Golf Bangkok Favorites
Joaquin Niemann (+700) (Bet $100 to win $700)
With all of the heavy hitters finding success with LIV thus far, I think it's Niemann's turn on the podium. In his first two LIV Golf starts, Niemann finished third and fourth, respectively. He came up short in his Boston debut by a single shot but still has all the tools for success in this field.
During the most recent PGA Tour season, Niemann finished second to Smith in overall strokes gained but lead all LIV Golfers in strokes gained from the tee to the green and ball striking outside of Smith. He placed third overall in birdies or better gained and that should keep translating to high finishes here at LIV.
Niemann has exceeded the 70-point barrier five times in his six LIV Golf rounds so far, averaging 67.1 per round. It won't take long for him to win his first trophy in this series and it wouldn't surprise me at all coming in international territory.
LIV Golf Bangkok Longshots
Sergio Garcia (+2000) (Bet $100 to win $2000)
Finishing top 10 in his past three LIV events, Garcia turned in his best result yet last month in Chicago, finishing T4 after a Sunday 67. With a scoring average of 68 over his past six loops, look for the veteran to once again be competing here in Thailand.
