The championship-hangover angle is a plausible opening-night scenario, although the stronger reason to back the Panthers is the quality and physicality they can deploy across their top two lines.
Brady Tkachuk is projected alongside Barkov and Reinhart, with Matthew joining Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe on another dangerous unit. That arrangement spreads the brothers’ net-front presence and puck-retrieval ability across separate lines. Florida will be without Brad Marchand, but still has considerable scoring depth available.
Barkov is particularly important against Carolina’s pressure. His ability to protect possession and support the puck through the middle can help Florida escape its defensive zone without repeatedly surrendering possession. Once established offensively, the Panthers can use traffic and second chances to challenge a Hurricanes defense missing Nikishin.
Carolina’s biggest advantage is its familiar structure and the energy of its home crowd. The banner ceremony could provide an immediate lift rather than a distraction, and Florida cannot afford careless penalties or extended stretches defending. Still, Jarvis’ absence removes a major scoring threat and gives the Panthers a better chance to contain Carolina’s attack.
