There would be no more deserving winner than Sergeant Pep, who keeps hitting the crossbar yet gets little respite from the handicapper. He may have to settle for more minor money because PETER THE WOLF had a little bit left up his sleeve when justifying favouritism at Kempton and there were subsequent winners in behind. Tonal capitalised on a handy turf mark at Ffos Las, but reverted to type on that surface at Bath and will be much happier back here.
