Rob Handley doesn't hold high hopes for the tourists in the first Test in Rajkot.
India v England - Wednesday 4am, Sky Sports 2
The first game of the series kicks off in Rajkot at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The two ODI games here were high-scoring affairs, so a similar pitch in the Test should produce a big score from the team batting first. I don’t hold high hopes for England on this tour and with the pitch in mind, India’s top order could well cash in. World beater Virat Kohli is the complete player in all formats and in my opinion, can only be rivalled for quality by AB De Villiers. He was sensational against New Zealand whose attack is very similar to England’s. Kohli to make a century at 9/2 is my first pick for this game.
In contrast, England’s top order is a real cause for concern which leads me towards the middle order for good value in the top England batsmen market. A 15/2 and 9/1 punt on Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali respectively to top the batting for the tourists are my second and third picks, investing favourably in Stokes. The Durham all-rounder has shown his quality and fighting spirit in Bangladesh and this kind of performance is likely to be called upon if the top order fail to produce again.
