Chelsea are on the longest unbeaten streak of any team in the league and continued their improvement with a dominant Cup win at the weekend. Watford are also in the hat for the 5th round though and have proven tough to beat all season so will be confident of making life difficult for the champions.
The Hornets have conceded less than a goal per game at home this season as the only sides to net more than once here have been the four top-five visitors. However, that ignores a more general trend that has seen the number of goals in their matches increasing as the season has progressed. Eight of their last 11 games have had at least three goals, including the recent 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s defence has certainly been giving teams plenty of chances but they have looked better going forward since Guus Hiddink took charge. Four of their seven matches under the Dutchman have had at least four goals while five have had three or more and the two exceptions were the match against Arsenal that was hugely affected by the 18th minute sending off to Per Mertesacker and a 0-0 at Old Trafford.
Watford have only failed to score twice in their last 14 matches and both teams to score certainly looks a good bet here. Furthermore, we’d also fancy the home side to get something out of the game, much as they did when the sides met a few weeks ago, as Chelsea’s improvement hasn’t been overwhelming as yet. However, with both teams set to be close to full strength the goals markets look the best bets in this game with Both Teams to Score at 2.05 and most of the ‘overs’ markets worth a punt.
