Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC - Sunday 07:00, BT Sport 1
Wellington have had a tough start to the season as they’ve lost and failed to score in both their games, though they’ve had a couple of tough fixtures at home to City and at Perth. It doesn’t get any easier for them as they host the early pacesetters Sydney, who have won both their games 4-0, at the Wanderers and at home to the Mariners.
Wellington lost just one of their first six home games last term, but have now lost seven of their last eight at the Westpac Stadium, trailing at the break in their last five there. However, they were unbeaten in their three meetings with Sydney last term and beat them 3-1 at the Allianz Stadium towards the end of last season.
Having said that, this looks a completely different Sydney side to the one that finished down in 7th last term and they in fact won both their trips to Wellington in 2014/15, when they were 2nd behind Melbourne Victory. Despite their poor season last term, Sydney remained strong travellers as they were beaten only four times on the road. With that in mind, they look a big price to win at 1.95 and since four of Wellington’s last five defeats were by more than one goal, we’re going to back Sydney to cover the -1 handicap.
