Aston Villa v Rotherham - Saturday 3pm
Aston Villa have backed themselves into a corner with Wednesday's embarrassing EFL Cup defeat to Luton. Roberto Di Matteo left himself little room to undertake corrective measures at Kenilworth Road in selecting such a strong starting line-up and now he has no option but to go with most of the same players.
All of which might make for a nervy opening in front of a Villa Park crowd with whom the team are already skating on thin ice. As such, there’s value in the 2/1 on Rotherham to score the first goal and it’s also worth having a bet on the 9/2 about the visitors to be ahead at the break.
The Millers aren't sturdy enough to be trusted over the 90 minutes with Alan Stubbs trying to implement an expansive passing game. Their shape has been far too loose. But if they approach this clash with the same freedom that enabled them to establish a two-goal lead against Wolves last weekend, they could certainly settle quicker.
Rotherham have looked pleasing on the eye in flashes but shipping seven goals in three hours tells its own story. Stubbs made wholesale changes for the 5-4 extra-time defeat to Morecambe in midweek but the result hardly instils confidence in the style of play. Whenever moves break down, Rotherham continually put themselves in immediate danger.
