Norwich v Sheff Wed - Saturday 17:30, Sky Sports 1
Norwich ended their 14-year wait for an opening day win in some style last weekend, putting four goals past Blackburn at Ewood Park, the first three of which arrived inside the opening 25 minutes. The opposition were outrageously passive but with four different names on the scoresheet, it was nonetheless an impressive demonstration of the Canaries’ attacking firepower.
All of which threatens to limit the height of Sheffield Wednesday’s ambitions here. The Owls didn’t win any of their 10 matches against the rest of the top six last term but seven of those matches finished all-square, suggesting there’s some value in backing the draw in this game at 5/2.
Of the five games Wednesday lost against top-half opposition last term, three had arrived by mid-September before Carlos Carvalhal had integrated several new faces. Once the settling-in process had been completed, few teams were better drilled and defensively consistent.
The Owls played out seven goalless draws last term, including four of those aforementioned top-six stalemates, so the no goalscorer bet at 8/1 is also worth a nibble. Wednesday were just four minutes away from another one at home to Aston Villa last weekend, until Fernando Forestieri served up a late winner.
