Norwich v Brighton - Friday 19:45, Sky Sports 1
Chris Hughton doesn’t do smug. But if he did, nobody outside of Norfolk would begrudge him a smirk when he returns to Carrow Road for the first time since being sacked by Norwich three years ago. His tenure with the Canaries was hardly a roaring success but the lasting judgement among the natives was totally at odds with his reputation everywhere else.
Hughton secured promotion for Brighton with victory over Wigan (2-1) on Easter Monday, ending their 34-year top-flight exile, and victory in this game would wrap up the title as well, enabling the club to prepare properly for presentation of the trophy in front of 30,000 fans at the Amex next weekend, irrespective of the result against Bristol City.
So don’t expect Albion to take this game lightly. They may have spent the past few days in party mode but this is the crest of a wave they could ride into the summer, clearing 100 points in the process. The pressure of the promotion run-in has been barely perceptible but perhaps they’ve just disguised it well and now have the freedom to cut loose.
Norwich are capable opposition - possible title contenders next season, in fact. But they will have to shift a soft underbelly that sees them invariably crumble whenever they concede first, their last four defeats arriving by 1-5, 0-2, 0-3 and 1-3 scorelines. Back the away win at 2/1 and chance a point on the Brighton 4-1 correct score at the whopping price of 75/1.Bet £10 get £20
