Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid – Saturday 12:00, Sky Sports 5
Two sides who have had frustrating starts to their La Liga campaigns face-off at Estadio Balaídos here. Celta Vigo’s start appears to have been poor on paper having suffered back-to-back defeats however they look like a team with heaps of potential. Their defeat at the hands of Real Madrid was one of great frustration given the way they nullified Real and made it really hard for them to create anything of real note, with Los Blancos narrowly winning 2-1. Eduardo Berizzo’s stock continues to rise and his players have really bought into his high pressing tactics and Simeone and Atletico should be very wary.
Before the start of the season, Atletico would have looked at their opening two games against promoted sides Alaves and Leganes and seen them as the ideal opportunity to start the new season with six points. Yet, they’ve come out of both with disappointing draws and already find themselves four points behind their title rivals.
If there is one manager who will instil confidence into his players then it’s Simeone and the international break may have come at a good time for his team. A number of his players are not involved with their countries and thus he will have had plenty of time to work with them and so we are backing them to pick up a much needed win. We do however think that it will take time for Atletico to break Celta down, particularly if recent evidence is anything to go by. In their last six fixtures, Atletico have been level at half-time in all of them. This trend is similar against Celta where in the last eight matches the two sides have played against each other, on six occasions it has been level at the break, with Atletico going on to win in the second half five times. As a result, we’re backing Draw/Atletico HT/FT in the hope that they make it six out of nine.
