Coventry v Northampton - Saturday 15:00
Tony Mowbray is preparing himself for a war of attrition against newly-promoted Northampton and there’s value in the 13/8 available on a goalless first half at the Ricoh Arena, not least because Coventry will be extra conscious of their defending in the wake of a 6-1 mauling at Norwich.
“At the moment we’re all feeling disappointed and frustrated,” says Mowbray. “But that will be forgotten pretty quickly if we get a victory at the weekend. It will be easier said than done, though, because Northampton are on a long unbeaten run and they’ll have a mentality of digging in, not getting beat.”
Northampton, of course, were Coventry’s landlords a couple of years ago and they dumped them out of the FA Cup at the Ricoh last November, but this will be the first league meeting between the two former arch-rivals since 1967. The Cobblers have drawn all six matches in 90 minutes this season, in keeping with the leaning towards fine margins established by new boss Rob Page during his time at Port Vale.
That sequence of stalemates surely has to end sometime soon and the Draw/Coventry half time/full time bet at 11/2 is another avenue worth pursuing. In four league games, the Sky Blues have yet to concede a goal inside 65 minutes. It’s hard to drum up too much excitement about odds of 6/4 over 90 minutes, but the hosts are better than the market is making out.
