Scunthorpe v Charlton - Tuesday 19:45
Russell Slade was left bitterly disappointed by Charlton’s game management on Saturday. The Addicks spurned several opportunities to extend a deserved 1-0 lead against newly-promoted Wimbledon, only to pay the ultimate price as the visitors pulled off a smash-and-grab raid with two goals in the final 15 minutes. Expect better at Glanford Park.
The Londoners appeared to be on the right tracks after a sloppy start and while it was easy for Neal Ardley to throw compliments about post-match, he seemed genuine in his praise of Charlton’s fluidity going forward. "The best team we’ve played this season," said Ardley. Interesting, considering the Dons have already faced Bolton, Scunthorpe and Sheffield United.
The league table currently suggests otherwise. Scunthorpe are top, a point ahead of Bolton having played a game fewer. And shot data paints a similar picture with the Irons leading the way on a 64.6 per cent shot ratio. But then you look at the fixtures and regression of some sort seems inevitable - all five wins have been against bottom-half opposition.
The visitors aren’t much of an Asian handicap proposition but don’t be afraid to chance the 3/1 available on the away win in the hope of a reaction. The Addicks are no bigger than 11/4 on my tissue. If you wish to play the correct score market, Charlton to win 2-1 looks like the best value proposition. Slade teams rarely keep clean sheet on the road, they tend to win by being positive.
