Barnet v Blackpool - Tuesday 20:00
Gary Bowyer openly prioritised prominence over quality with his summer recruitment drive at Blackpool, targeting players who consistently make an impression on matches at this level rather than those more talented, who perhaps come at a premium, drift in and out of games, but invariably have the decisive say.
So he can hardly complain when the Seasiders dominate games, yet fail to take the points they deserve on balance, just as they did in a frantic local derby at Morecambe on Saturday, and just as Bowyer’s Blackburn side did on several occasions in the early part of last season. But complain Bowyer did, accusing Lady Luck of deserting his team.
The simple fact is, Blackpool have had 39 shots in their two league outings and they’ve hit the target just eight times. Now they face a long trip down to the capital to face a Barnet side that happily allowed Accrington to dominate possession last time out and gleefully picked them off on the counter. Expect them to follow the same template and back the home win at 13/8.
The Bees are consistent winners when the bigger teams pay them a midweek visit. Last season, Northampton, Portsmouth, Plymouth and Notts County were all turned over at The Hive on Tuesday nights. Given the discipline that Martin Allen has instilled and the visitors’ profligacy, the 7/2 on Barnet to win to nil is also worth a nibble.
