Bastia v PSG - Friday 19:00, BT Sport 1
PSG begin their campaign for a fifth straight Ligue 1 title at Bastia under new manager Unai Emery, after he was brought in to bring European success to the club, having recently won a third consecutive Europa League with Sevilla. Bastia were once again mid-table finishers last term, having finished between 10th and 12th in each of the last four seasons.
Bastia only lost six home games last season, one of which was a 2-0 defeat against PSG, who have beaten them without conceding in six of their seven meetings in all competitions since 2013/14. Indeed, 12 of the Parisians’ road wins last term were without conceding and it’s worth noting that they only led at the break five times on the road all season as they often took time to wear opponents down.
Bastia had the fifth best defence in Ligue 1 last term and only trailed at the break three times at home and as a result the best way to get the Champions on side looks to be backing it to be level at the break before making their dominance count in the second half. Bastia scored the third fewest goals in Ligue1 last season and since their top scorer, Floyd Ayite, has joined Fulham, we’re also backing PSG to win without conceding and for Cavani to emerge from Zlatan’s shadow now that he can play in his preferred role through the middle. Furthermore, Cavani’s enjoyed facing Bastia in the past as he’s scored five times in just 252 minutes of action against the Corsicans.
